About ByeByeMetaData
Every photo carries hidden data. We help you take it back.
What Is Image Metadata?
Every digital photo you take carries invisible information called EXIF metadata (Exchangeable Image File Format). This hidden data is automatically embedded by your phone or camera and can include:
- GPS coordinates — your exact latitude and longitude when the photo was taken
- Camera make & model — identifies the device used (e.g., iPhone 16 Pro, Canon EOS R5)
- Device serial number — a unique identifier that can be traced back to your specific device
- Timestamps — the exact date and time the photo was captured
- Owner name — your name, if configured in your camera or phone settings
- Software used — editing tools like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or Snapseed
- Lens & exposure data — focal length, aperture, ISO, shutter speed
Most people don't realize this data exists — but anyone who receives your photo can extract it in seconds.
Why Remove Metadata From Photos?
When you share a photo via email, messaging apps, forums, or direct links, the metadata travels with it. Unlike social media platforms (which strip some metadata on upload), most sharing methods preserve all hidden data.
This means someone who receives your photo could:
- Extract your exact GPS location — revealing where you live, work, or travel
- Identify your device by its serial number — linking multiple photos to the same camera
- See when and where every photo was taken — building a timeline of your movements
- Learn your name if it's embedded in the owner or artist field
A single photo shared carelessly can reveal your home address, workplace, daily routine, and the exact device you use. Removing image metadata before sharing is one of the simplest steps you can take to protect your privacy.
How ByeByeMetaData Works
Removing EXIF data from your photos takes just 3 steps — and everything happens right in your browser:
Drop
Drag & drop your image or click to upload. Supports JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, and HEIC.
Inspect
See all hidden EXIF metadata fields — GPS, camera info, timestamps, serial numbers — color-coded by risk level.
Download
One click strips all metadata and gives you a clean, metadata-free copy ready to share safely.
Under the hood, we use the HTML5 Canvas API to redraw your image from scratch. This produces a brand-new file with zero embedded metadata — no GPS, no camera info, no timestamps, nothing. The original image quality is preserved at full resolution.
Your Privacy Comes First
We built ByeByeMetaData with a simple principle: your images should never leave your browser.
Unlike other metadata removal tools that upload your photos to a server for processing, ByeByeMetaData runs 100% client-side in JavaScript. There are no uploads, no server processing, no cloud storage, and no data retention.
Your photos are processed entirely in-memory on your device. When you close the tab, everything is gone — because nothing was ever sent anywhere in the first place.
Free Forever — No Limits
ByeByeMetaData is and always will be completely free.
- No sign-up required — just open the page and go
- No watermarks on your cleaned images
- No file size limits — process any image your browser can handle
- No ads — ever
- No premium tier — every feature is available to everyone
We believe privacy tools should be accessible to everyone, not locked behind a paywall.
